Packing “Lightly”

I decided to switch it up for a change. I always see all of these cute “How to” and Inspiration posts so I decided to try one out for myself. I am leaving for West Palm Beach today and I’m so excited to spend a week at the beach, with a pina colada in my hand and getting a tan in the sand.

Packing is always my biggest problem. I end up packing too much, or not enough, but never the right amount. This time I think I mastered it so I decided to share some of my tips & tricks.

Purple necklace//Rocksbox c/0 (Use code “poshprimeblogxoxo” for first month free); Choker//Pitaya; Bracelets//Tiffany & Co; Tassel Necklace//Boutique

I like to lay out a couple pieces first and see what I think I want to bring. In the past I end up taking around 5 statement necklaces and a bunch of random bracelets. NO! I like to see what I have and pick my favorite and most versatile pieces. I decided on a couple of statement necklaces, my choker, two simple Tiffany bracelets, and a couple rings. These pieces worked well with all of my outfits. The tip is to start with a lot and narrow it down to a few. Keep narrowing down until you have the bare minimum. Trust me, you don’t need 5 statement necklaces.

After I narrow it down, I decide how I want to carry my jewelry. I usually find a cute wristlet that can be used later on in the trip and pack my items in there. I put the statement necklaces and rings in the wristlet and then my bracelets in their pouch. All fit nicely in their place and it saves a lot of space.

Clothing (dun, dun, dun)

Nordstrom; H&M; Boutique(similar); H&M (similar); Lilly Pulitzer (similar)

When you go to Florida, the majority of your outfits are swimsuits. I have way too many swimsuits so I had to narrow it down. I will be there for 5 whole days so that means 5 swimsuits. If you are a normal person, you only need 3-4. I am not normal and like to mix it up everyday. You never know, I could meet my future husband and God forbid someone notice I wear the same suit two days in a row.

Anyways, I like to lay out my tops and bottoms and see if they are cohesive. 90% of my tops don’t have a bottom to match so I end up bringing a couple bottoms that can be paired with a few different tops.

Now the hardest part…actual clothing. I always end up with 12 outfits for 6 days and have to sadly say goodbye to some pieces. This is the final outfit count. I like to hang up each full outfit on a garment rack so I  can see what pieces can go together and have the entire look on one hanger. For example, that denim jacket can be worn over most of the dresses. The blazer can be worn over a different outfit as well. Hanging up your outfits before packing them is a great way to see if you have variety, but pieces that are versatile as well.

For the more fragile shoes, I like to wrap them in a scarf I am packing. It keeps them safe and also saves space as well. You can also use purse bags to store shoes too.

Once again, I usually overpack. Maybe you think 6 pairs of shoes is insane. It may be for someone who isn’t a fashion addict. Am I right?! Anyways, I like to lay my shoes out on one surface to see what I have. I like to have a variety, and make sure that these pairs can go with most of my outfits. It is also easy to eliminate some after seeing them altogether as well.

Beauty Products (aka my bathroom counter in one bag)

When I go on vacation, I tend to bring my entire makeup bag. Again, this isn’t practical since I don’t end up wearing half of it. I break it down to the bare minimum, and the things I wear everyday. You are beautiful the way you are, makeup is not needed!

Lipstick is another story. I have many tubes of my MAC favorites but for vacation I have to narrow it down as well. However, since lipstick is small, I can get away with shoving more in my bag. Not pictured are a couple pairs I am going to sneak in my makeup bag 🙂

My beach bag is usually a mess. I swore last time to bring less so that is what I intend on doing. I decided to bring one magazine for the plane in hopes of buying more at the hotel. I also tend to bring at least one hardcover book, and read the rest on my Kindle. A Kindle is a great space saver, and super practical for a heavy reader like me.

These are some of my favorite products that I wanted to share with you.

1. Mario Badescu Facial Spray– This is perfect for any day, but especially one spent at the pool and beach. You spray it on your face and hair for a light refresher and it smells like roses. You want to smell good when you are all hot and sweaty.

2. Living Proof Humidity Shield– If you are a normal human being, your hair gets frizzy. This stuff zaps the frizz and also provides some volume as well.

3. Coola Sunscreen Spray– I hate to admit it but I very rarely wear sunscreen. Recently, I decided to start taking care of my skin and bought this sunscreen that is for your face only. I started wearing this to protect my skin from wrinkles in 10 years. I still use tanning lotion on my skin though…whoops!

4. Living Proof Instant Texture Mist– I spray this on my hair when it is wet and it dries with a natural wave. If my hair is dry, I spray it and it adds a nice texture to keep the waves at attention. It smells great too!

5. Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub– When laying in the sun, you think the least about caring for your lips. I forget to put SPF lip balm on them and they end up getting burnt. This lip scrub is great at the end of the day to help moisturize and keep them nice and juicy 🙂

I hope you all enjoyed this post. If you have any ideas for future posts, let me know! You can follow my trip through Instagram (@poshprime), Twitter (@poshprime) and Snapchat (megancrean).

  1. Have a great vacation! I’m just a bit jealous of you. You have some good tips in there, like packing your jewelry in a wristlet and shoes in a scarf. I’ll keep those in mind the next time I pack. Love that rosewater spray and the Living Proof texture mist too. And yes, five statement necklaces for a beach vacation is probably too much. 🙂 Have a good time.

  34. Ugh I am the worst at packing!! My biggest tip (which I never really follow but when I do it works like a charm) is to pack everything up the day before and that way I have a day to remember if I forgot anything, otherwise I get anxiety as I am headed to the airport hahaa. But I think you did fantastic here by paring down the clothing to the necessities that can be mixed and matched and really thinking about what you would be doing and needing the most of aka swimsuits.

    Have a great trip!

Thank you Mary Katherine! I’m glad you liked it. That’s a great tip too! I usually do that or write down things and check it off because I end up forgetting at least one thing every time!

  36. I always start big then put things away as I go through it all. I’ve learned to pair down jewelry I bring on trips too! Great tips!

  37. This is such a great feature! I really loved checking what you pack because I am also often pack too much clothes that I don’t have time to wear. You did a very good job this time! I think that it was a smart way to pack. Have a nice time at West Palm Beach! Enjoy the sun!

    • says:

I always pack too much and then I buy things that I wear instead of what I brought. Thank you Katya!

  38. 6 pairs of shoes?! Nuts. I see why you would have a hard time choosing between them though! They are all AWESOME.

  39. I just stumbled upon your blog – I love the Sam Edelman sandals & monogrammed hat that you packed! The sandals look super comfy even though they’re a wedge. Have tons of fun on your trip! 🙂
